Joining the GL Community

Global Lab is a community of students who are interested in exploring their local environments. As in any community, the first thing you need to do is introduce yourself.

You will present your school, town, and region to the GL community by completing a geographical profile. Every class will upload its data into the GL database, enabling easy searches and comparisons.

Then you will build your class page on the GL web site. There, you will post pictures, stories, and videos about yourselves, and even a class logo. What’s cool is that you can also see the pages of all other GL classes to learn about them as they learn about you.

Soon, you’ll have colleagues a thousand miles away. And new friends.

Recommended timeline: by the end of October.

This stage includes the following CLUs (Collaborative Learning Units)

  •
    №0 Class Presentation
When we need information, we usually do not care who provides it. When we call a call center or a help desk, it does not matter who we talk to, where they live, or what interests them. All we want is information.

When scientists need information, however, they have to find it themselves. They must work together in collaborative investigations, communicating and sharing plans and data. They have to know and trust each other. Inaccurate data from a single scientist can undermine the work of the entire group.

Global Lab students will conduct collaborative investigations, which is why you will begin by introducing your class, school, and town to other GL students. This is the first step toward building a community of discoverers.

When you learn about other GL classes, it becomes easier and more fun to work with them.

    №1 Off We Go!

You are about to start a fascinating journey into the world of science and discovery.

Global Lab will lead your way.

You will work with other GL students, discussing your ideas together and sharing your findings just the way scientists do.
